RSPCA representative Neil Barnett will be at Bebington High School assembly on Thursday, November 20, to receive a cheque for £800 raised by junior pupils.
The donation represents the results of various ideas initiated by young pupils at the school. Senior teacher Ann Bryant has been delighted by the response, which resulted from pupil suggestions for a fund-raising effort.
Bebington High School has just received a trophy from Wirral SATRO in recognition of the progress made by the Young Engineers' Club, run by teacher Andrew Beddard.
The Young Engineers have entered the 1998 Shell Mileage Marathon, a competition in its 22nd year, whereby students ranging from secondary school to university graduates compete at the Silverstone race track.
The aim is to build a vehicle which will travel as many miles as possible on one gallon of petrol. The current record is 2,000 miles! Fortunately school students only have to aim for around 400 miles. The competition will involve regional finals, followed hopefully by the grand final at Silverstone.
The pupils involved in this project are Kirsty McGaw, Sandra Vasey, Kerry Madge, Ian Fogerty, Kevin Wood and Ben Howard.
The Career Connections special award is to be presented by director Richard Smith at a ceremony in the school library on Monday, November 24. The beautiful plaque is in recognition of this excellent facility and all the work put in by staff to create this exceptional source of reference materials in a welcoming and stimulating environment.
