WORK on repairing the up Four Bridge has started-and is scheduled to be completed late May, nearly two years after it first went up.
Since then, motorists have had to take detours around the Four Bridges' cross dock route while firms in the area have suffered business loss.
But, Wirral Council Leader Dave Jackson, who lives near the bridge, yesterday said "I am delighted tht work has started on the site. Although this contract has been beset by technical difficulties, all of which have been outside the Council's control, our position has always been that we want the bridge to open, as soon as possible."
A new partnering agreement between a consultant, contractors and Wirral Council, are now working togther to get A Bridge repaired and back down.
The Council is anxious to assure readers that periods of inactivity at the bridge do not mean that progress has stalled-intensive work will be taking place off site. the work is highly complex and technical tolerances are being closely monitored to ensure an effective long term repair, says Borough Engineer Andrew Rhodes.
