From 'Disabled Car Parker':- FURTHER to 'Incensed' (Mailbox, September 17), the reason that parking has been reduced around the shopping areas in Birkenhead is to eliminate obstruction to enable better access for commercial delivery vehicles, also service access for emergency police and fire vehicles.
The questionable 'iniquitous' changes in car parks are paid by the majority of car owners which is indeed an oncost of owning a car, and I do not see the connection between suffering from an illness and the need to pay for parking, as the possession of full mobility in the issuing of a courtesy Orange Badge, and thereby shown on a Vehicle Excise Tax Disk as either Disabled or 'NIL' will ensure that the owner of such documents can park free.
The possession of a Orange Badge alone does not allow for free parking in this Borough as is advertised on all Pay and Display car parks and also on the information leaflets published by the Wirral Association for the Disabled.
I am a holder of a Orange Badge and understand completely the differentials of Disabled Parking, and respect what is being done for disabled drivers, but also know that parking charges where applicable are amongst the cheapest in the country, having worked with and amongst the car parking fraternity for many years.
