LADY of Hilbre rescued four men in a boat after putting out in high seas off Hoylake. The lifeboat was called out to another Lady 'in distress,' Lady Jane, an 18ft long day boat with cabin.
The outboard engine broke down, unable to cope with the strong tide, six miles west of Liverpool Bar Lightfloat. On board were four men, William Simpson, John Oakes, Kevin Gerrard and Richard Coventry, all from Liverpool.
John Curry, spokesman for Hoylake Lifeboat told the Globe that Lady of Hilbre's crew braved squally conditions, with a three to four force wind, rain, hail and poor visibilty.
They took off the men aboard, to lighten the load, and towed in Lady Jane to beach her at New Brighton before returning to Hoylake.
