CORONATION STREET couple Gail and Martin escape their neighbours from hell 'The Battersbys' to enjoy some late night shopping in Birkenhead this Thursday. They join Santa, Cinderella and Prince Charming, Miss Wirral Globe, plus other celebrities, to switch on the Christmas lights in St John's Square at 6.30pm.
They arrive as part of a big parade, including a band and glass coaches. They then move on to The Pyramids where Santa will set up residence in his Grotto.
Gail and Martin Platt, alias Helen Worth and Sean Wilson, will return to St. John's Square at 7.15pm to sign autographs and chat to the crowd. The big parade starts at Princess Pavement at 6pm, en route to the Pyramids, giving families plenty of opportunity to glimpse the stars amid all the Christmas sparkle.
Earlier this week Police launched the Christmas message that Birkenhead is a safe place to shop. Besides a crackdown on crime, they are getting kids to Think Bubble - what to do if they get lost.
