THE INQUEST into murdered Spital pensioner Alice Rye was re-opened and adjourned by Wirral Coroner Christopher Johnson.

Detectives from Merseyside Police gave an update on the progress of the inquiry, which started after Mrs Rye was found dead at her home last December.

Despite police efforts and a reconstruction on BBC Television programme Crimewatch, nobody has been charged in connection with the murder. Detectives are still trying to identify fingerprints found at the home of Mrs Rye.

The inquest will resume on March 31.
