THE Third Division fixture between Stanley's Cask and The Saddle was abandoned due to a 'near death' injury to Stanley goalkeeper Gerry Lawlor.
He sustained a severe head injury but was saved by the quick actions of referee Colin Hayes and team mates who acted swiftly to avoid a disaster. Many thanks to all concerned from the Wallasey & District Sunday Football League.
In the Premier Division, Nelson Vics dented the title ambitions of Millhouse with a 2-1 victory over the leaders, thanks to goals from Alan Griffiths and Robbie Gerrard. This enabled Poulton Royal/Dale to close the gap to one point after a 3-1 victory over St Mary's, Justin Broadbent, Mark McClaghlan and Mark Hayes scoring for the victors.
St Joseph's won the Seacombe 'derby' against Gorsedale 4-3, with doubles from Neil Young and Kevin Murray. Jon Sanderson, Brian Walsh and Barry Prior replied.
In Division One, five goals from Duncan Van Marle helped Old Bank to continue their assault on the title race with a 6-2 defeat of Vanser Club.
Kings Arms moved into second place after thrashing Brackenwood 8-1 with Craig Saville firing a hat-trick and John Scarisbrook scoring twice.
Lee Charles scored twice as Volclay beat Pilot Boat 2-1 and goals by Steve Lockwood, Dave Robertson, Chris Evans and Ian Griesel gave Atlantis Gym a 4-1 victory over 27 Club.
