FIRM ground awaited runners when Wirral AC held its long-established annual trophy races at Arrowe Park.
The event, again sponsored by Midland Bank, attracted a good turn out of athletes, particularly among the younger age groups.
RESULTS:-
Dave Jeffs Race (Under-11 Boys) - 1, R. Gibson (St Anselm's Red Court); 2, P. Herson (St Theresa's, Liverpool); 3, P. Morrisey (St Mary's Prep. Cosby).
Dave Shallcross Race (Under-12 boys) - 1, G. Mulvoy (St Edward's); 2, M. Rowland (St Anselm's); 3, A. Sudbury (De la Salle).
W.F. Bushell Race (Under-13 Boys) - 1, Rory Smith (St Anselm's); 2, Richard McColl (Caldy GS); 3, C. Gough (St Edward's). Winning team in the Under-13 race was Calday Grammar School.
W. Weston Trophy Race (Under-15 Boys) - 1, S. O'Donoghue (St Edward's); 2, David Byrne (St Anselm's); 3, D. Harris (Maghull HS).
A.G. Nicholson Trophy Race (Under-18 Boys) - 1, William Goudie (Caldy GS); 2, Andy Brabin (Caldy GS); 3, Michael Heath (Wirral GS).
With St Anselm's winning the team event in the Under-15 race and Calday the Under-18 race, it was a good day for Wirral schools.
