MOST Merseysiders only had a glimpse of Britannia in the Mersey or through railings at Liverpool's docklands, but Wirral West MP Stephen Hesford at least got to sail aboard her.
The Royal Yacht returned to the Thames from Merseyside before going on to Portsmouth for her final royal duties.
The MPs' trip from Westminster Pier to Tower Pier was organised by the Parliamentary Maritime Group, of which Mr Hesford is secretary.
"The purpose of the visit, other than to travel on this beautiful ship, is for visiting peers and MPs to listen to a briefing by Admiral Sir Jock Slater on the work of the Royal Navy. It was also a great honour to travel through the country's capital on such a historic vessel," said Mr Hesford.
The previous MP for Wirral West, David, now Lord, Hunt, had hoped that Cammell Laird shipyard might be able to build a replacement for the 44-year-old yacht.
