WEST Kirby Council of Churches presents a shelf-full of new books to West Kirby library this Friday.

The set of new books enlarges the library's selection of biography, social affairs and religion. It is the third gift of books given by the West Kirby Council of Churches - the first gift of 90 books was made in 1989, and the second 36 titles were handed over in 1992.

The presentation is part of a national scheme, Christian Book Promotions, founded in 1968. It recommends a set of mainstream religious books chosen by a national panel of literary experts from all the major denominations. So far in 1997, over 70 presentations have been made to libraries across Britain.

Among the books presented to the library was No Flowers Just Lots of Joy by Fiona Castle.
