From Geoffrey Holmes:- CLAIMS that letters had been sent to every resident regarding the proposal to develop the former Derby Pool site is not quite true.
The facts are that the people of Wallasey have not been consulted and have been given very little time to review the plans.
The meeting which decided the sale of the land was held in September and the chance for members of the public to lodge objections was limited by the August Bank Holiday.
The time and date of the meeting of the Planning sub-Committee held on Thursday, November 12, was only given to two of the Wallasey Ward Councillors on the Monday evening and it was these two Councillors who informed the public. Not one member of the public who had written letter s of objection to the proposal was informed by letter. The Director of Planning wrote a letter to the two Ward councillors apologising for not informing them of the date of the planning hearing.
The drawings of the advertising signs - a separate application to that of the building - were only prepared on the afternoon of the November 13 (four hours before the meeting) and only the four members of the public on the floor of the Council Chamber were able to see these before the vote on the proposal was taken.
Together with the planning application the applicant's architects submitted a glossy brochure showing tastefully designed public houses which they have built in other part s of the country. Why have they abandoned this policy for the obscenity that they wish to erect at Harrison Drive. It is an insult to the people of Wallasey.
