SOUTH Wirral Branch of the British Heart Foundation raised over £17,000 for heart research over the last year.
The committee wish to thank branch chairman Mr Graham Cox and all members and friends who so ably gave of their time and assistance this year.
Mr Cox, however, has warned that volunteers are still urgently needed to continue the charity's work. Talks can be arranged to organisations interested in hearing of the work carried out in the name of heart disease and its causes.
If you would like to volunteer, or need more information, contact Mr Cox at 'Bramley End', 53 Mere Avenue, Raby Mere, L63 ONE (Tel: 334-2443).
The committee has also paid tribute to Branch President David Hunt, former MP for Wirral West who was elevated to the House of Lords in John Major's resignation Honours List in recognition of his 21 years' service to the community in the House of Commons.
The committee also extend their thanks to members of the public and organisations in Bromborough, Heswall and Ellesmere Port and Neston for their generosity on flag days.
Rose Heart Week, held in June, raised more than £1,000 and the committee sends its grateful thanks to the various business establishments, hotels and shops which helped. Mrs Pat Deakin, of the Castle Singers, Heswall, presented a splendid recital of solos and choral work at Heswall Hall in October - an event which attracted more than £700. Over £750 was raised at the annual luncheon and a sponsored swim at the EPIC pool, Ellesmere Port, brought in more than £700.
