From A disillusioned parent:- WITH reference to 'Angry mother' (Mailbox, November 5) and 'Another angry mum' (Mailbox, November 19), I feel it is my pleasure to advise them on how lucky they are. It seems that these mums are very angry at having to pay £185 for yearly travel of their daughters who have just been accepted by West Kirby Grammar School for Girls. In my own daughter's case she obtained an excellent pass at the 11-plus for entry to West Kirby Grammar. However, she was not accepted because her entry would have 'prejudiced the provision of efficient education' according to the Education Authority. This is because she lives in Moreton, which is out of the catchment area for West Kirby when the school is oversubscribed. This means that West Kirby offers places to girls with borderline passes at 11-plus, while rejecting those with excellent passes, depending on where the girls live in situations of oversubscription - hardly a selective process.
