BIRKENHEAD Park found unbeaten Whitchurch, from Midlands One League, too strong but an experimental side did well and only folded in the last quarter. Dominic Ford secured a try converted by Tom Mapp, who also kicked a penalty.
Oldershaw lost 41-22 to Liverpool St Helens. The Oldershaw forwards' support and handling was excellent at times as they inter-passed with the backs, keeping the ball alive. Martin Sutton scored on the left wing.
Oldershaw's three other tries were scored by forwards Dave Reid, Steve Austin and Rob Shackleton. Will Gardner kicked one conversion.
Oldershaw take on Stockport in a non-league fixture this Saturday.
Caldy went under 30-34 at home to Altrincham, but grabbed four touch downs through Paul Arista, Henry Aldwinkle, Greg Watterson and Richard Farrall. Ian Cropper managed two conversions and a brace of penalties.
Wallasey came away 18-3 winners from Collegiate thanks to touch downs by Ian Booth, 2, and Greg Maxwell. Booth also put over a penalty.
Wirral romped in 62-22 at Ormskirk. John Morris, Barry Wainwright and Nick Stott had two tries apiece with singles for Mark Fuliger, Dave Knight, Sean Kaye and Chris Whorton. Simon Hignett converted six times.
Anselmians edged out New Brighton 21-20. Matt McKenzie went over twice and Tony Moscrop once. Paul Proudman kicked two penalties. Hoylake accounted for Mossley Hill 12-7. Trevor Boult and Andy Cotgrave touched down and Ray Williams added a goal.
Prenton beat Eagle 22-18. Gary Furlong grabbed two tries, two conversions and a penalty. Brian Elkerton also crossed. Parkonians (Mark Hillian try and drop goal) lost 8-15 to a Waterloo XV. Shell Stanlow hit Sefton 45-3. Paul Watkinson, 2, Ian Johnson, Mark Davies, Paul Moretta and Gareth Jones touched down. There was also a penalty try, while Kevin Mason converted five times.
Birkenhead Park entertain Northwich on Saturday and their seconds go to Shell Stanlow. Wallasey have a re-arranged league game at Bowdon. Hoylake entertain Hightown.
In the Homebase Cup at Parkonians last Sunday, Caldy whipped Helsby 53-0. The Chester v St Edwards game was off.
Cheshire beat Lancashire 30-10 at Sale on Sunday and will win their group of the County Championship if they beat North Midlands at Worcester on Saturday.
The Under-21 side failed 17-39 against Cumbria at Chester and are now out of contention in their Under-21 Championship group.
