HOYLAKE Sailing Club is launching a campaign to save HM Coastguard, Liverpool. They have written to the Hoylake born Government Minister reponsible for the proposed closure. Besides letters of protest to Transport Minister Glenda Jackson, the Sailing Club has sounded alarm warnings to Wirral MPs, Lord David Hunt of Wirral, and Leader of Wirral Council Dave Jackson.
Wirral's policy making councillors will now discuss the controversy at its next meeting on Monday, December 15.
Hoylake Sailing Club secretary John Percival tells the Minister: "The closure is of great concern to us all as it threatens the safety of life in the Liverpool Bay area of the Irish Sea.
"As someone brought up in Hoylake, I am sure that you are very much aware of the history of the two rivers, with their strong and unforgiving tidal streams which have threatened and unfortunately claimed many lives over the years. It has no doubt been due to the work of the local rescue services that more lives have not been lost.
"We believe that this proposed closure is false economy and will in the end cost money as well as lives."
