Carlsberg West Cheshire Soccer League report by Ray Conliffe
DESPITE taking a fourth minute lead through Tim Forman, Poulton Victoria's dream of reaching Wembley in the FA Carlsberg Vase disappeared, on Saturday, when a late flourish by visitors Kidsgrove Athletic secured a 4-1 victory.
Vics, who only the week before were knocked out of the Carlsberg Pub Cup they so famously won at Wembley last May, had come close to adding to their lead in the first-half, but by the time Scott Dundas hit the first of Kidsgrove's goals in the 63rd minute, the North West Counties League side were applying plenty of pressure.
Dundas went on to add a penalty, as well as having one saved by 'keeper Steve Skupski, and influential midfielder Paul Kiely also netted twice as Vics had central defender John Hammond sent-off.
Ian Dunroe hit an extra-time winner for Stork and completed a hat-trick at the same time as his side ended Vauxhall's 15 match unbeaten run with a 5-4 success in a Wirral Senior Cup first round tie.
Earlier, substitute Andy Taylor had netted an 89th minute leveller for Stork, who also had Paul Wiggins on target. Gary Washington, 3, and John Wrigley registered for Vauxhall, who had Gary Edwards sent-off in the 18th minute.
Also in the Wirral Senior Cup, there was an excellent 2-1 victory for Cammell Laird at Ashville with goals for Joe Kearns and Ray Bentley.
Bromborough Pool bowed out of their third cup competition in as many weeks, losing 6-1 at Shell (Ian Wilkinson, 2, Wayne Foden, 2, Ian Chapman, Wayne Nicol).
In a reduced Division One programme, Newton maintained improved form as Jamie Griffiths registered in each half in a 2-0 victory at Mersey Royal.
New Brighton advanced to the fourth round of the Cheshire Amateur Cup with an emphatic 7-1 replay win over Alsager, Phil Parkhill firing a hat-trick, aided by Kevin Pink, 2, Tim Gilbert and Robbie Gerrard.
Ben McHugh and Keith Dawson both hit doubles as Division Two leaders Stork Reserves emphasised their title intentions with a massive 8-1 demolition of Vauxhall Reserves. Others on target were Paul Scarisbrook, Chris Hess, Tony Williams and Jason McEvoy.
Colin Hawitt and Steve Cheers scored for Poulton Victoria Reserves, who won for the ninth time in as many outings with a 2-0 success.
Heswall Reserves returned to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Willaston. Ken Gore, 2, Paul O'Dougherty and Gary Reay were on target.
West Kirby came from behind to defeat visitors Castrol Social 3-2. Peter Cross, 2, and Mike Andrews did the damage.
Dave Bennett netted for Ashville Reserves in their 1-1 draw at Shell Reserves (Lloyd Oldfield) and Cammell Laird Reserves remained in fourth place following their 3-1 home win over Manor Athletic, Kevin Rowan netting twice.
