A NEW project is keeping the local branch for the Campaign for Real Ale busy after its successful Birkenhead Beer Festival.
Work has started on the task of surveying for a new Pub Guide. It's not the well-known Good Beer Guide, but Out Inn Cheshire, which features all the pubs in Cheshire, and some of the best in Wirral.
Tipped to pick up the Camra award for the best guide of the year, Out Inn Cheshire will be lavishly illustrated, with around 100 photographs, many in colour, of the region's best pubs.
If you fancy yourself as a budding David Bailey, contributions will be gratefully accepted. Camra are offering a prize if any photograph submitted of one of their flagship pubs is selected for the book, out in April.
The short list for the flagship is: Crown Ale House; Old Colonial; Irby Mill; Shippons, Irby; Travellers Rest, Higher Bebington; Clarence, New Brighton; Wheatsheaf, Raby; Rose and Crown, Bebington; Fox and Hounds, Barnston; Dee View, Heswall; Farmers Arms, Wallasey Village; Red Lion, Parkgate; White Lion, Childer Thornton; White Swan, Great Sutton, and Old Harp, Little Neston.
Photos should be submitted to Alan Machin, 78 Cornelius Drive, Pensby, L61 9PS, no later than January 10.
Converted for the new archive on 13 March 2001. Some images and formatting may have been lost in the conversion.
