BEREAVED parents Audrey and Daffyd Hughes-Jones (pictured above right) present Arrowe Park Hospital intensive care unit with a cheque in memory of their daughter, car crash victim Kerry Hughes-Jones.
They make a second cheque presentation, this time £2,000, to buy life saving equipment. The money raised through the Globe backed Heart of Gold Appeal is taken from the title of Kerry's favourite pop song.
Kerry, aged 20, lost her fight for life in the ITU following a horrific car crash in Bromborough, which also killed two brothers, Gary and Paul Phillips.
Ward manager Sally Stephenson and ITU technician Gary Bird receive the cheque, saying Kerry's memory will live on through the Heart of Gold Appeal.
Already the appeal has purchased two units to help patients dependent on ventilators to breathe more normally. Fund raising events have included a draw at the Merebrook Pub, Bromborough, a barbecue at Kerry's Eastham home, a sponsored walk at Forest Hills, Frodsham, plus a Father Christmas Day at the Elf petrol station, Eastham Rake.
Audrey and Daffyd plan a quiet Christmas without Kerry but in the New Year will continue to fund raise with a stall in the main foyer of Arrowe Park Hospital.
