ANOTHER successful motor racing season for Wirral's Peter Harrison and his M&G International and J&R Motors supported MG Midget.

Once again he is Cockshoot Champion in his class with the fast MG Midget, sponsored by MG Parts Suppliers M&G International, of Birkenhead.

With seven class wins at Oulton Park, Silverstone, Mallory Park, and the new circuit in Anglesey, the 1997 MG Car Club Cockshoot championship was decided in his favour with three races left to run.

This is the fifth year in succession that Peter has won the Championship, and the third time the Cockshoot Cup has been brought to Wirral.

The 100 per cent finishing record carried forward from previous seasons was maintained, even after a rather large accident at Oulton Park in April, when he was pushed off the circuit while leading the race. The most worrying part of the accident for Peter was it took place in front of the pits, where his wife and mother were watching!

"After a compulsory visit to the pits for a safety inspection, we still finished in the points, but the good news is my mum still tells me to go even faster!" said Peter.

Due to excellent work by the staff at J&R Motors, and the availability of the required parts at M&G International, the rear half of the car was repaired and raced the following weekend.

Work on next year's car is already under way. It is being modified to full race specification, and will race in two championships, including races in Europe. Peter had a test drive of the new MGF sports car putting it through its paces, in preparation for the MGF Sports car race championship next year. Peter won't be competing in that particular championship, but thoroughly enjoyed the new experience of the MGF.

Many Wirral companies have strong ties with Motorsport, and this year along with teams such as the Williams Formula One, and British touring car championship winning teams. Peter has had technical support from Champion spark plugs who are based in Upton.
