CO-driver Steve Hunter has taken pressure off the roadtest schedule, allowing some time at the wheel of a classic sports car, writes Globe motoring editor Robin Bird.
Steve is keen, enthusiastic, and enjoying driving new cars - a change from his Morris Ital. Meanwhile, I have just had Christmas dinner with Wirral Classic Car Club. The meetings on the first Monday of the month, at Hoylake Conservative Club, usually clash with deadlines at the Globe.
The club has its own Agony Aunt in Helen Billington, who drives a Triumph Herald convertible. So, we had a lot to chat about!
Chairman Blair Percival welcomed new members, including Lord and Lady Hunt of Wirral, who own a Frogeye Sprite; Mark Hodgkinson, of Bebington, with a MGB GT, and David Carter, of Wallasey, owner of a VW Beetle.
The enthusiast of the year award went to John Gore, who owns a Morris Minor and Ford Cortina 1600E.
My MG TC celebrates its 50th birthday early next year and will probably join Chester Vintage Enthusiasts for the traditional New Year Day's Run from Hoole Hall, Chester, to the Grosvenor Hotel, Pulford.
On February 2, the two clubs will be locked in an inter-club quiz at Hoylake Conservative Club. Meanwhile, I have a new hobby - collecting beer pump badges.
The first is a Speckled Hen, a beer brewed in Abingdon, where MGs were made. Speckled Hen was also a car sponsored by the brewery in the 1930s, so the badge is a fitting extra for the MG's badge bar!
