F1 DRAMA in Canada and Formula Ford drama at Oulton Park, in Cheshire, the same weekend. Return of the Tuscans to Oulton was so hairy that the first of two races had to be stopped because of crashes, writes Robin Bird.

However, the most spectacular crash-even compared to F1 - was at Cascades in the Champion of Oulton FF 1600 race. Julian White, number 24 in a Van Dieman and Peter Waterfield, number 19, touched at speed throwing Julian's car head over heels. It looked a bad accident, fortunately, the driver was OK reinforcing just how strong these single seater racings cars are.

John Hyde, Wallasey, in a Van Diemen concluded the finishers in this action packed race.

Wirral drivers Alan Welch, Bromborough, Steve Davenport, Oxton, and Graham Rixon, Caldy, whet the appetite for racing in the first event of the afternoon, the Escort XR 3 Challenge.

John Stant, Liverpool, won but Rixon did well to take fourth place in his Curzon Motorsport Tekniks' engined Escort.

Racing at Oulton on June 13, hot hatches, June 20, Midsummer Races, then June 27 with the vintage meeting of the year, the Sir Henry Memorial Races.

Local Chrysler dealers Cubbin and North hope to have the new American hot rod on show at this meeting, the Plymouth Prowler. Le Mans Porsches, Indy cars, modern F1s plus classic Ferraris, among the many exciting sports cars at this weekend's Festival of Speed at Goodwood, near Chichester in Surrey. Many famous people will be trying to get these cars up the Goodwood Hillclimb. O1243 755000
