UPTON Village Karate Club achieved great success in their first ever competition at the Junior and Senior National Karate Championships in Oxford, held by the English Goju-Ryu Karate Association.
In the Forms section, Mark Melvin and Debbie Taylor won gold medals, Steve Taylor silver and Derek Jones and Steve Checkley bronze. Karl Taylor and Martin Jones also had good performances.
The squad also did well in the Kumite (Sparring) section, reaching the quarter-finals. Instructor, Sensei Steve Gouldson, 3rd Dan Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate, was highly delighted with his team's achievement.
