Local Cricket Scene with ANDREW STRATTON
PORT Sunlight are through to their area final in the Village National Knock-Out Cup, following a convincing 118 runs success over Croston on Sunday.
Sunlight, who beat holders Caldy in the previous round, rattled up 247 runs in their 40 overs, with Ian Wallbank, 80, Eddie Griffiths, 79, and Mark Tighe, 46, the chief scorers. The visitors were restricted to an all out total of 129.
Meanwhile, Irby shocked Caldy in the second round of the Kaufman Memorial Trophy with an 11 runs success at Paton Field.
The Irby total of 132-9 did not seem enough, but Caldy collapsed from 54-0 to 121 all out.
Dave Aston hit 32 and Peter Urwin claimed 4-27 for the losers. Ian Webster, who took 3-23, Andy Peddie and Ged Kinsey, who knocked 35 and 31 respectively, were best for the winners.
Mersey Park crashed at Aigburth. They had only nine men and were skittled out for just 22 runs.
Eastham Bromborough went under by 26 runs at Prestatyn, where Neil Murray and Steve Harvey collected three wickets apiece.
Caldy settled for a draw at St Asaph, on Saturday, in the top of the table Bromborough Paints Merseyside Competition clash. Phil Eymond made 43.
Caldy lost second place in the table to Aigburth, one of only two First Division winners in a rain spoiled day. Aigburth crushed Irby, who were dismissed for just 49.
Port Sunlight drew with Wavertree. Eddie Griffiths hit an undefeated 54 and Neil Manning took 4-16.
Parkonians stay top of Division Two after a draw at St Mary's College. Mersey Park were the only winners in this division and went third. They had nine wickets in hand over Xaverians. Keith Hawkins claimed 4-15 and Dave Devlin 3-26.
