Plans for New Brighton 1934 like plans for Millennium . . .

NOTHING new under the New Brighton sun as our two illustrations 65 years apart show. Our 1930s colour illustration plan is for the biggest outdoor pool in Europe. It became a reality, almost to this very day in 1934, to be destroyed by hurricane winds in 1990.

The £150m Ocean Dome - on the site of the former New Brighton Pool - would be Europe's biggest open/shut pool if plans take shape early in Millennium. Don't the plans look similar right down to the adjacent boating lake!

New Brighton Community Association 'positively welcomes plans for the Ocean Dome.' Secretary Rusty Keane, like the Wirral Globe, believes the Ocean Dome attraction fits perfectly into a vision for New Brighton after so many false dawns.

"Local people have been crying out for years for some form of all year round baths, one of the features of the Ocean Dome. We urge readers to show their support and get behind these exciting but realistic plans for the Ocean Dome by writing to the Globe."

New Wallasey really lifts off on Saturday, June 13, at 6.30pm when a hot air balloon - weather permitting - goes up as part of Balloons Across the Mersey based at 12 Quays. Entrance to the main arena is free, with balloon launches scheduled for 6.30pm on Friday, June 12, 6.30am on Sunday, then at 6.30pm.

Balloons Across the Mersey is part of the Mersey River Festival with a Night Glow spectacular at Woodside between 9pm and midnight on Saturday, June 13. Balloons will be tethered and inflated and there will be music and lasers, plus a firework finale.
