A SIXTH form pupil at South Wirral High has earned a place as a trainee on the Sailing Training Association Schooner, 'Sir Winston Churchill'.
Robert Campbell, 17, of Eastham will sail in the second leg of the 1998 Cutty Sark Tall Ships' Race from Lisboa, Portugal, to Dublin via Vigo in Spain from August 2-22.
It is anticipated that over 70 tall ships from over 20 nations will take part in this year's race.
Robert will have an opportunity to socialise and make new friends from the 2,500 plus trainees and crew who will be involved in the unique event.
The race is in two stages, with the first starting on July 14 from Falmouth to Lisboa. The ships then sail to Vigo, where they start the second leg to Dublin.
