From G. Lawler:-
LAST week I went for a daily jog along West Kirby beach and was disgusted with the amount of litter in the one mile stretch between Riversdale Road and Stanley Road.
I counted 26 glass bottles, for every bottle there were probably three drinks cans, four plastic containers and two crisp packets. Even more disturbing were discarded syringes, all of which were close to where young children ran barefoot.
The fault lies with the low-life who discard their rubbish on our beach, but we also pay Council Tax and Water Rates, a proportion of which goes towards cleaning the beach.
Sadly nine days later the rubbish was still there. The one meagre litter bin at Red Rocks was full and overflowing.
So, I decided to do something about it. Armed with gloves and bin liners, I collected the bottles which are now safely residing in the bottle bank in Dee Lane.
Tomorrow, I will go back for the drinks cans.
Will my efforts result in a rebate on Council Tax or Water Rates? Somehow, I doubt it!
Let's at least have more litter bins, bigger and better designed than the existing type and let's have them emptied on a more regular basis.
