A RECORD £5.7 million was raised for the first five days of sales of 'S' prefix Select Registrations by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency's Sale of Marks scheme, an increase of 29 per cent over the launch of last year's 'R' prefix series.
The DVLA's popular scheme, which has already raised over £300 million for the Treasury, will continue and will sell the more attractive numbers created by the proposed new registration format announced this week and due to be introduced from September 2001.
DVLA personalised registrations will continue to be part of the British motoring scene well into the next century and we'll be able to expand considerably our current range of around 6 million potential numbers," said Byron Roberts, DVLA Sale of Marks Marketing Manager.
The remaining prefix letter series will be issued at the following times: T - March 1999; V - September 1999; W - March 2000; X - September 2000; Y - March 2001; New format - September 2001.
"Anyone already owning a cherished number will still be able to retain and transfer their marks, even after the new format is introduced" added Byron Roberts.
