DAEWOO is continuing its remarkable sales success for the year, with May registrations up 84 per cent on the same month last year, in a market up just 1.7 per cent.
More significantly, the May result continued a sustained growth trend of similarly dramatic proportions, with the 10,000 unit mark for the year being comfortably passed during the month for a year-to-date Daewoo tally of 11,500 registrations - 55 per cent up on 1997, against industry growth of 7.1 per cent. The year-to-date figure is more than half the Daewoo total for the whole of 1997, with the August boom and the introduction of the Matiz mini-car still to come in the remaining seven months.
Daewoo's growth in both May and the year-to-date are the highest in the UK motor industry, while its 1.44 per cent May market share enabled the company to maintain its impressive record of increasing its penetration every month this year.
"We're now reaping the benefits of launching not just a range of cars but a strong brand, and one which stands for something relevant and motivating to today's car buyers - customer service," says Sales Operations Director Patrick Farrell. "With three new cars and others on their way, we are appealing to more and more motorists all the time."
