FIVE youngsters from Shaftesbury Youth Club, Birkenhead, used their heads to win the UK's first Soccer Head Tennis Tournament.
The five-strong team, all aged under-12, competed against 60 teams from all over the country at the tournament at Pontin's, Blackpool. The tournament was organised by the National Association of Boys' Clubs in conjunction with Everton and former England captain Dave Watson.
He explained: "Soccer Head Tennis is played on a court and the players have to pass a football over a net using any part of their body except their hands. The game helps kids practice close control and improves team work, awareness and co-ordination. These skills are crucial and will help players stand out on the football pitch."
Shaftesbury's victorious team comprised Simon Davies, Steven Leech, Lee New, Craig Davies and Michael Holmes.
