CONGRATULATIONS to Stanley Robertson, who was made a Commander of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
Commonly known to family and friends as Stan, he received the CBE for his work as Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Railways. He retires on July 13, just a day before his 60th birthday.
Although born in London, he moved to Wirral when he was 18 to serve as an engineering apprentice with the Atomic Energy authority at Capenhurst. He joined the CEGB as an engineer six years later, before joining Shell in Ellesmere Port.
He joined the Health & Safety Executive in 1974, when he was made electrical inspector of factories for Manchester Division. He became Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Railways in 1993.
He also received a personal letter from Deputy leader of the Labour Government, John Prescott, thanking him for his work.
Stan lives in Caldy with his wife Valerie, who hails from West Kirby. They have four children. Awards seem to run in the family: Valerie's father, Frank Housley of Hoylake, was awarded the MBE in November 1970.
