WIRRAL magistrates told a motorist who was just a tiny amount over the alcohol limit they had every sympathy but had no option but to impose a one-year ban.
Jeffrey Gilmore, 40, of King Street, Wallasey, pleaded guilty and was fined £50.
A blood test showed he was five milligrammes over the permitted level. Tony Nelson, defending, said Gilmore had held the nationally taken view that two-and-a-half pints was safe but he was wrong. He had a few drops too much when celebrating a friend's birthday and now his sandwich delivery work will be hit without a licence.
Gilmore was stopped in a routine check at midnight and had a clean record.
