THE S-REGISTRATION new Golf is on show at Wirral Volkswagen dealer, Smith, Knight Fay, Bebington.
Volkswagen cars were voted top of the range in BBC TV's Top Gear magazine. The range, including the new Golf, Passat, Polo and Sharan was voted top in their categories, leaving their rivals behind in the slow lane.
Every example of the new Golf range is better value than its equivalent in the previous range when specifications are equalised. More importantly, for the first time in a car of this class, Volkswagen offers the customer a standard of panel fit, body rigidity and overall build quality only found previously in much more expensive luxury cars.
Volkswagen has raised the game for the family car by setting new standards of quality, equipment and available options for a given price, starting at £12,250 on-the-road for the Golf 1.4e three-door powered by a new 1.4-litre, 16 valve 75 bhp engine. Side airbags are standard.
High demand is expected for the five-door 1.6 100 bhp S and SE models and the TDI 90 bhp S.
Disabled drivers are certainly not forgotten with the S-Registration Volkswagen Golf.
This is the only car currently available with a range of modifications for disabled drivers that are approved by the factory, and crash tested not to impede the action of its four standard airbags in the event of an impact.
The Golf for disabled drivers scheme was launched at the West Midlands Mobility Roadshow on June 12, at MIRA. It means that a wide variety of adaptations, developed with the full co-operation of the factory, is now available to give almost any disabled person the freedom offered by a Golf.
Volkswagen strives to market class-leading products at affordable prices. In line with this objective, the mobility adaptations are to a quality that matches the build of the Golf itself and, being dealer-fitted, their prices will be surprisingly low. There's added value in the facility to 'collapse' the modified controls to enable the Golf to be driven by an able-bodied person. Developed over a number of years to be simple and reliable to operate, the modifications have been crash-tested so as to minimise risk of injury to the driver. And because the controls are fitted to existing fixing points, removal is easy at a later date when the owner wishes to trade-in the Golf, hopefully, for another.
A further unique attraction is that factory approval of the new controls means that the Golf's class-leading warranty package, three year/unlimited mileage, mechanical warranty and 12 year anti-perforation cover, is maintained.
All of the 18 Golf's in the current range can be adapted, and there's a choice of four petrol engines and three diesels. Automatic transmission is offered with either a 1.6-litre 100 bhp petrol engine or, unusually in this market sector, a 90 bhp direct injection diesel.
