WIRRAL SHOW is at New Brighton prom over the weekend of July 11 and 12 with the world-famous Red Arrows flying over on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, there's the Allandale Summer Fair - a much smaller event but worthy of support as it helps the local community in the Seacombe area.
One of the organisers, George Thomas, says the fun starts at 10am with admission just 20p for adults, 10p for children. Attractions include teddy tombola and bric-a-brac, plus an end-of-season bedding plant sale: just the opportunity to restock the garden. The Allandale Community Centre is in Oakdale Road.
BOTH New Brighton and Hoylake lifeboats were put on alert in the early hours after reports that an 18ft sailing boat had capsized off Mockbeggar Wharf. Merseyside Police helicopter was also put in the air, but it turned out that the yacht Serena had no-one aboard having been left anchored by three inexperienced sailors from Liverpool. They had intended to return but the tide caused the vessel to drag anchor and ground.
John Curry, of Hoylake Lifeboat, says the incident emphasises the need for would-be sailors to learn the ways of the Mersey and Dee estuaries before committing themselves to the possible dangers of the sea.
MAYOR Margaret Green attends the opening of Wallasey Victim Support's new office in Seaview Road on Friday, July 3.
VALE Park in New Brighton is welcoming volunteers to paint the bandstand. After a story in the Wirral Globe last week, six beach lifeguards volunteered to take on the task last Friday.
FACING Wirral magistrates for drink driving, a Wallasey man claimed it was a one off and very much out of character.
Peter Ainsworth, aged 47, of Grange Road, said the circumstances on the day were difficult. He was splitting up with his wife after 28 years.
He pleaded guilty with a test showing nearly three times the permitted level and was fined £500 and banned from driving for a year.
