WIRRAL AC's Under-17 men's team came away with silver medals from the Northen Cross Country Championships, finishing as runners-up to Sunderland over a hilly course at Graves Park, Sheffield.
Leon Russell led the team home to take 10th place in a time of 21 mins 24 secs for the 6.1k race distance. He was supported by Andrew Baddeley in 16th (21:26), Tim Holsgrove 60th (22:51) and Ben Culligan 61st (22:56).
Competing over a distance of 8km, the Junior Men's team finished just outside the medals in 4th place.
First home for Wirral was Chris Lindesay in 14th place (26:07). Making up the team were William Goudie (38th, 27:42), Ben Cooke (41st, 27:49) and Joe Barber (50th, 28:25).
Wirral Under-15 Boys' team finished 8th. Chris Jones led his colleagues home in 36th place, followed by James Peerless 43rd, Graham Bentzen 83rd and Richard Cowell 85th.
The Under-13 Boys' took 7th place. Team finishers: Ben Jones 13th, Matthew Watson 23rd, James Hughes 42nd and Jamie Brett 99th.
Under-15 Girls (8th overall): Lindsey Doyle 21st, Ella Bowes 51st, Lisa Taylor 62nd, Ruth Barber 91st.
Senior Men (25th in a race with 764 finishers): Jon Holt 143rd, Tony McDevitt 226th, Mark Morris 242nd, Pete Weatherhead 298th, Mark Hulmston 332nd and Bryan Williams 387th.
In the Under-20 Women's race, Rebecca Lindesay finished in 14th place, while in the Under-17 race, also running as individuals, Vicki Rooney came 55th and Jennie Allison 71st.
