VICAR of Neston, Rev Neill Robb has praised staff and pupils of Neston St Mary's Church of England School following the publication of primary school tables.
"It is deeply grieving that such people are so maligned and bludgeoned by a misleading set of figures.
"The fact is that before the tests were taken last year, staff and governors knew that the results would be poor. At that time 55 per cent of the school register were on the special needs register. Now it is 44 per cent.
"In May the school underwent an Ofsted inspection and was given a good report. In September, the County English Adviser began a report on the school saying Neston St Mary's is a school Cheshire LEA can be proud of. I have no doubts that 1999 results will show it to be one of the fastest improving schools in the county, if not in the country.
"In the meantime, St Mary's continues to give good sound education to all its pupils and deserves the support of all. The Prime Minister and Secretary of State would be welcome to visit anytime. They would leave greatly impressed."
