FOLLOWING the death of a Jet ski rider off New Brighton, Wirral leisure councillors meet next week to consider safety measures, including a speed limit. The report wants a charge for power boat and Jet ski users to launch their vessels.

IMPROVED security to the bowling green, a multi-use sports pitch, a better children's area, plus fencing to keep dogs out - that's the quarry of a community group in Wallasey.

Friends of the Quarry Recreation Ground want general improvements in the area near Mount Pleasant Road. A report goes to next Tuesday's meeting of Wirral Leisure and Tourism Committee.

Tomorrow's economic regeneration committee gets an update on New Wallasey projects. The new Wilkinson Store will be a 'major stimulus in Liscard' when it opens.

Sponsorship of Liscard Alive 99 is agreed but a project by New Brighton Rugby Club has been withdrawn as the club failed to get a £5m lottery grant.

THE BIRDS! Councillors met last night to control pigeons, starting in Liscard. The environmental health and consumer protection committee is working on a strategy for Wirral, and identifies Liscard and Wallasey as worst affected.

LEISURE councillors next week are expected to approve funfairs for Wirral Show, July 10 and 11, at the Tower Grounds, June 26 and 27, and Liscard Central Park, August 22.
