CLAIRE House Children's Hospice received £1000 thanks to the efforts of Nickie Richman and Vicky Hassel, who took part in the annual New Year's Day road race starting at Thornton Hall Hotel and finishing at the Nag's Head pub in Willaston.
The girls agreed to run the four miles dressed up in Mickey and Minnie Mouse outfits. They received excellent sponsorship support from friends and regulars at the Nag's Head, with a special effort by Stan Cookson who organised a raffle which enabled them to reach their target.
Claire House is a children's hospice based in Wirral and covering Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. It will cost around £350 per person to provide such comprehensive care - a staggering £750,000 per year, all provided free and without the help of state funding.
At the hospice, they help well over 300 families with terminally ill children. Staff think that it is lovely to see parents and children having the support, love and care they need and how grateful they are to be able to come to Claire House - this has only been made possible with the kindness of people like Nickie and Vicky.
