Gang attack on teenager

by Robin Bird

POLICE say a brutal Saturday night gang attack on a teenager near New Brighton's Floral Pavilion Theatre, could have resulted in a tragedy. Fortunately, the head injuries of the victim being treated in Arrowe Park Hospital are not life threatening.

The 17-year-old was leaving an amusement arcade on New Brighton front with a friend when he was set upon by a 10-strong gang of thugs. One attacker was tall, in his early 20s, slim with short hair and with a mixed race, or tanned complexion.

The teenager from Wallasey tried to escape but suffered a vicious attack with youths jumping on his head causing serious injuries. They previously kicked and punched him until he fell on the ground near the Floral.

Police appeal for witnesses and think someone must have seen the unprovoked attack on the promenade roadway. The gang was made up of males in their teens and early twenties, wearing tracksuits and trainers. Ring Wallasey Police on 777- 2080.

In Stavordale Road, Moreton, on Friday night, a woman pensioner suffered cuts to her knees after being mugged and had her handbag stolen by a white man, in his twenties, wearing a maroon top and tracksuit trousers. Again police are appealing for information.
