WIRRAL were edged out by the odd point as they journeyed to the Isle of Man to take on Vagabonds in a South Lancashire/Cheshire One match.
It was very disappointing for the Clatterbridge outfit, who did more than enough to win.
Andy Charvill, Paul Rawsthorne, Jim Yarranton and Shaun Kay gained tries and Ian White a couple of conversions, but it finished 24-25.
Oldershaw, after a bright start, fell away at Leigh and suffered a 0-27 reverse.
Anselmians maintained top place in Division Two with a crushing 61-5 home win over St Edwards. Simon Kearney gained a try hat-trick and Peter Collins went in twice. There were also touch downs for Neil Turner, Scott Tunna, Graham Leehay and Graham Poole. Gareth Williams hit four conversions and a penalty and Turner one of each.
Hoylake lost their way at Ashton-on-Mersey, managing just a Simon Robinson penalty in a 3-12 scoreline.
Prenton's Division Three match at Orrell Anvils was a weather casualty, but Wallasey played and lost 5-27 at home to Sefton. Steve Guest touched down.
Port Sunlight, in Division Four, were well pleased with a 15-6 success at Oswestry. Parkonians did not play.
This Saturday, Oldershaw have Vagabonds as visitors and Wirral welcome Birchfield. Anselmians meet Bowdon at Malone Field and other games include Hoylake v Trentham and Prenton v St Mary's.
