UNEXPECTED widespread frost caused the majority of games in the South Wirral Football League to be postponed, on Saturday (writes Vernon Lee).
But it failed to deter current leaders Tricorn from forging further ahead in the race for the Robin Hodgson Premier Division title race, following a narrow 2-1 win over battling Bebington Athletic.
Victory saw the Runcorn side open up a seven point gap over reigning champions General Chemicals.
Determined to put up a good show against the only unbeaten side in the top flight, Bebington were soon into their stride and took the lead on 20 minutes, thanks to an astute finish from tireless 'man of the match', Eddie Ball.
Tricorn, though, showed true resolve, equalising shortly before the interval before enhancing their title claims with a 68th minute winner.
In the Concorde Trophies Division, last season's champions, Vanser Reserves, faced stubborn resistance from bottom club Rangers Breaks. After going in front via a 10th minute goal from Steve McDonald, Vanser never really imposed their authority on a game which saw Rangers spurn several second-half chances to equalise.
