A MULTI-TALENTED teacher from Greasby really has got the best of both worlds after landing a part in her own play.
Actress, author and director Madelaine Murthwaite plays Donna in The First Time - a one-act play looking at a young woman's development into adulthood. The play is due to be performed early this year and the Unity Theatre in Liverpool is among venues being considered.
The idea for The First Time arose from a monologue Madelaine wrote, called Dear Diary, while at university.
She met actor Ricky Tomlinson at a fundraising night for Liverpool Equity Branch and he advised her to write her own one-act play and The First Time was born.
Madelaine trained at Elliot-Clark Drama and Dance school in Liverpool and has taught English and Drama at West Kirby Grammar School for Girls for two years.
Starring in her own play is just the latest string to her bow.
She has toured with Theatre In Education companies visiting various schools and also had a lead role in Stepping Out in Chester. Television credits include Linda Connor in Brookside, the troublesome housewife who lured Max Farnham.
She told the Globe: "I love teaching and I love acting, because I'm doing both. I've got the best of both worlds."
