TRIBUTES have been flooding in following the sudden death of a former Cammell Lairds worker from Wallasey who helped to save Leasowe Recreation Centre.
William Michael Prowse, aged 66 years, suffered a massive heart attack while walking close to Grove Road Station on December 20.
Known to his family and friends as Mike, he ran the Over-50's Badminton Club at the Centre and became a key player in saving the sports facility from closure.
Vida Wilson, Secretary for the Friends of Leasowe Recreation Centre, said: "Mike's input was astounding, he worked tirelessly while on the committee and he was very valued member.
"I am so pleased he saw the results of hard work before he died."
Mikes family would like to thank the ambulance crew and passers-by who came helped him when he collapsed.
He leaves his wife Pat, daughter Ann and son Neil.
