THIS week, the kids at the Lyndale School have been putting paint to paper to show the people of Wirral their idea of a dream garden.

We think you'll agree their paintings are great but what we really want is to bring these pictures to life and give them the sensory garden, which will make a real difference to their education.

These gorgeous colourful efforts show what Lyndale is all about - using teaching techniques that stimulate the children's senses and help them to overcome their severe learning difficulties.

Kath Jefferies, Acting Deputy, told the Globe: "The kids really enjoyed producing these pictures. We started off the session by showing the children some of Monet's paintings and they used their hands and fingers to paint their garden pictures in his style.

"Letting the children use their hands is an example of how we try to make stimulating the senses - in this case touch - a big part of our teaching methods. We also used real coconut for the blossom to excite their sense of smell."

News of our sensory garden appeal has delighted Wirral South MP Ben Chapman who said: "I think it's an excellent cause for the Globe to support. I've visited the school on a number of occasions and have always been impressed by the team of dedicated people who do super work for kids with particular needs. They approach their work with affection and professionalism.

'The idea of creating a sensory garden is wonderful and very exciting. I'm sure it will bring the children great pleasure."

Over the coming weeks the Globe will be bringing you regular updates on how our appeal is progressing, as well as introducing you to some of the children who are going to benefit so much from the garden.

If you're planning a sponsored activity to raise cash and help the kids of Lyndale get their garden, give us a call on 0151 906 3051 and let us know. We'd love to share your efforts with other Wirral Globe readers.
