ANSELMIANS maintained their winning streak in South Lancashire/Cheshire Two League, on Saturday, but Oldershaw fell to their first defeat.
The Malone Field outfit were made to fight very hard by neighbouring Ellesmere Port, but tries from Ian Jessimino and Mark Petterson plus both conversions and two penalties by Murray King saw them home. Ellesmere Port managed a converted try and a penalty.
Oldershaw could not cope with the Crewe and Nantwich forward power as they went under 5-22. Jonathan Roberts gained an unconverted try.
Wallasey travelled to Ruskin Park and earned a 17-17 draw.
Hoylake were delighted to record their first win in Division One by a 42-0 margin against Wigan. They were under the impression the match would not be played when Wigan, with several players unavailable because of a wedding commitment, arrived at Melrose Avenue.
Luckily, Hoylake had planned a training session and were able to field a strong side. It showed as they gained tries via Steve Young, Richard Young, man-of-the-match Dan Baldock, Rob Kurton and James Morris. Steve Young landed a trio of penalties and four conversions.
Wirral went down 10-20 at Wilmslow, virtually gifting the home side two of their four tries. Graham Phelan and Nick Tucker went in for the losers and there was not one successful kick on the day.
Prenton, in Division Three, came away 17-7 winners from Marple.
In Division Four, Port Sunlight crushed Helsby 44-5. Carl Taylor crossed twice and Dan Taylor, Richard Outram, John Skerratts, Matt Metcalfe, Peter McArdle and Duncan Clarke once each. Martin Naylor goaled twice.
Parkonians just made it 7-6 at Holmes Chapel, thanks to a touch down by Terry Williams and the conversion by Paul Topping.
There is cup action for some clubs this Saturday (October 16).
Matches include Birkenhead Park v Stockport, Caldy v Egremont and Hoylake at Penrith in the Intermediate competition.
In the Vase, meanwhile, Wallasey entertain Parkonians, Oldershaw visit St Edward's and Port Sunlight are at home to Sefton.
New Brighton, Wirral and Prenton have no match.
