A WITNESS contacted the police after a car being driven erratically and slowly stalled in Bedford Road, Rock Ferry and could not be re-started by the driver, Wirral magistrates heard.
Police later saw the abandoned vehicle which had extensive damage and visited the home of 57-year-old James Daniel Riley who was the registered owner of the BMW.
He was detained and a breath test showed he was nearly three times the legal alcohol limit, said prosecutor Jenny Williams. Riley, of Beverley Road, New Ferry, admitted attempting to drive when over the alcohol limit.
Chris Murphy, defending, said Riley had brandy after arriving home but it was accepted he would have been over the limit earlier. Riley had been trying to get the car home for safety reasons.
Magistrates imposed a driving ban of 28 months and fined Riley £250 plus £90 costs.
