A FINAL call has been issued to former pupils of Birkenhead's Woodchurch Road Primary School who left in 1956.
A reunion, organised by a couple of ex-classmates, is being held at the school towards the end of this month - and they are desperate to track down the whereabouts of some contemporaries who have proved somewhat elusive.
Classes 5A and 5B are being brought together again for the first time in nearly 50 years when the grand re-union is held in the school hall.
Organiser Vici Quick (nee Townley), who lives in New Milton, Hampshire, said: "As far as I know this is the first time the class has been re-united since we left in 1956. We were all evacuated to Northwood Road (now Prenton Dell Primary) School while much-needed repairs were carried out on the old building."
She added: "We've had a tremendous response to the publicity that the Globe has given us and there's going to be a lot of our classmates returning to the school once more. Even our old headmaster, Mr Oliver, who is now 96 years young, will be joining us, as well as one of our former class teachers, Miss Pryce.
"I have had some wonderful responses to the 'call' - one pupil still has the end of year autograph album and one person saw a photograph of our school year in a second-hand shop in Birkenhead. When told the price, she replied with amazement: '£5!'
"The shopkeeper replied: 'Yes, it is very old you know!'
"To which she retorted: 'Not that old - it's a picture of me!'
"The shopkeeper let her have the photo for 20p . . ."
Vici is putting out a last call in the hope of hearing from any former classmate, including:-
Eunice Tom, Peter Kinsella, Paul Holmes, David Connis, James Batty, Ann Burgess, Rita Samuels, Joan Burns, Ann Auld, David Farrell, David Earnshaw, David Rankin and Joyce Holden, to name but some.
If you are an ex-classmate, or know of the whereabouts of any of the above, and would like to attend the re-union, Vici would love to hear from you. E-mail Vici at viciquick@btworld.com or telephone her on 01425 624210.
