CHILDREN from Wirral primary schools became TV news reporters last week on Paul O'Grady's new ITV show.

Pupils from St Michael and All Angels Catholic Primary School in Woodchurch, St Saviour's Church of Englands Primary and Paul O' Grady's former school St Joseph's Catholic Primary, both in Oxton, were invited to appear on the show which airs on weekday afternoons.

And six-year-old, Jack McGrotty from Woodchurch was treated like a star when he was whisked off to London to appear live on Tuesday afternoon.

Camera crews visited the schools filming clips of the youngsters reading out their own news stories about teachers, their family and friends and pets.

ITV's Neil Simpson said: "Paul was born in Birkenhead so when we decided we were going to have this slot we knew where to go for our news reporters.

"We came up from London to meet the children and they were all fantastic and Jack was adoreable."

Chloe Roberts and James Power, both aged eight and seven-year-old Harry Owens from St Michael and All Angels school in Woodchurch joined Jack in representing their school.

But the biggest surprise for Jack was when he was invited to London, stayed in a luxury hotel and was taken on the London Eye.

His moment of stardom came as he interviewed heart-throb Donny Osmond with the help of the Lilly Savage comedian.

"I said to him 'Do you love my mum because she loves you?' and he laughed and said 'yes'. It was really good fun!" said Jack.

Head teacher Monique Stevenson said: "We are very proud of all the children who were filmed and on TV and the whole school is so happy for them."

Chloe, James and Jack told the Globe they now want to be famous when they are older with Chloe hoping to be a singer or a nurse, James a comedian and Jack either a singer, artist or footballer. Harry said he will stick to his plans to become a wrestler.
