STUDENTS from the Birkenhead-based Barbara Johnston Stage School are limbering up for a special show in aid of Claire House's latest appeal, taking place this week.

Proceeds from 'Let's Dance 2004' at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton will go to the hospice's 'Sparkling Star' appeal. Last week, the Globe-backed appeal reached the £1.5million mark thanks to National Lottery Funding - but there is still a way to go before the target is reached. The hospice needs to raise £2m for a teenage annex with en-suite bedrooms, family rooms lounges and a kitchen area to be built onto the hospice. The project has received a Lottery Fund grant of £300,000.

It was launched by former 'Brookside' star, and appeal president, Claire Sweeney in July last year. And the fundraising continues...

Wirral Jazz Friends present their 18th charity evening for the Claire House with a Jazz Party entitled 'New Orleans to Soweto.' The concert takes place on Friday, October 22, at Heswall Royal British Legion in Pensby Road. Tickets at £7.50 are now on sale for what promises to be a fantastic evening's entertainment from 336 1190.

On the bill is the top class Kid Boyd Jazz Band from Yorkshire, playing a variety of styles, including New Orleans and South African. The Parade Jazz Band will also feature and there will be a parasol parade and dancing. The jazz friends have raised £14,800 so far for the charity.

Claire House hospice opened in April 1999 and since then more than 200 children and their families have benefited from the centre's specialist respite, terminal and bereavement care provided in a friendly, warm home-to-home environment for children aged 0-19 years of age, who have life-threatening conditions, and their families.
