AS a home owner in Brownlow Road, New Ferry, I and my neighbours find ourselves constantly distressed at the inability to park in the road due to the number of vehicles parked there by residents of nearby roads, shop owners and local shoppers.

In years past there were protests made by the residents to prohibit shopping traffic. This resulted in traffic islands being laid to close specific junctions and the re-catagorising of Legh Road and Brownlow Road to 'access only'.

It would appear that the signs that were placed at the entry to the one-way system are either too small or, more to the point, are ignored by people who have no business in the roads and continue to park there.

There are also several businesses in the road who constantly park commercial vehicles outside our houses for days at a time, showing little or no consideration for people who have to sit in their living rooms looking at the unsightly scenery day in and day out.

Recently, a petition was raised and presented to Wirral Council for the introduction of 'Residents Parking Only'. This came to no avail. In fact, the response that my neighbour was given appeared to be that they would do nothing about it.

To add to the annoyance of residents, a traffic warden has taken to patrolling the area on a regular basis and is now issuing tickets to residents who have nowhere else to park but on a set of double yellow lines, which, incidentally, causes no obstruction, as due to the restrictions very little traffic should be accessing the roads in the first place.

Wirral Council have also been requested to install a disabled parking bay outside my own home for the use of my mother. This was approved by the planning committee, but the borough engineers have advised my mother that due to the double yellow lines outside, they cannot put the bay there at present.

I took pictures of the road outside my home. There are no double yellow lines. However, the response from the council is that they are faded! Surely then they should be re-painted?

There is a clear end to the yellow lines in the road. I also took pictures of this. According to the council, that line has been "painted on" - funny how it is in road lining material, isn't it?

The whole situation is beyond a joke. Maybe someone from the council should exercise a whole review of the road and make a final decision of where parking is, and is not, allowed.
