MANY readers' letters have focused on the increase of petty crime and vandalism. It is no surprise to me that this government has introduced new laws to prevent the problems growing, but, as usual, Labour have introduced more bureaucracy and red tape.
Our police now drive desks instead of cars and are weighed down with paperwork since the introduction of Human Rights legislation.
People will take advantage of any situation, which is why daily we see things happen with no-one brought to book. For example, cyclists riding on pavements, alcohol being consumed in outdoor public places and cars parked on bus stops and double yellow lines.
The list is endless. Until things like these are addressed, people will assume that there is no deterrent and the bigger crimes will become the norm. No use introducing new laws without the means to police the crimes. Free up our police to do the job that they are paid for.
